Needham Market Academy operate an elite golf excellence and education programme in partnership with Hintlesham Golf Club and Joe Cardy Golf. The programme is aimed at 16-19 year olds with a passion for sport. Needham Market Academy combine practical playing with academic achievement and life skills, providing students with an excellent stepping stone to combine progression in golf, sports coaching, physical education and sports development.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSE’s grades A*- C; recommended these include English and Maths; PE is also desirable or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport at a Merit grade. Successful applicants must be willing to be involved in all aspects of sport, including practical as well as theoretical.

Educational Benefits

The Academy is aimed at players aged 16-19 years who wish to continue their golf development in pursuit of a full or part time career in the game whilst achieving nationally recognised qualifications – the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or the VRQ Level 2 & 3 Diplomas in Increasing Participation in Sport. The course is also designed to prepare students for higher education in a sports related subject or a career in the area of sport. Needham Market Academy have two purpose built classrooms to provide the correct environment for students to develop and enhance their knowledge within the course.

Students will receive coaching from Joe Cardy, a PGA Golf Professional with vast experience tutoring players from juniors and beginners to elite amateurs and fellow professionals, as well as guidance on individual fitness, nutritional advice, and regular appraisals to monitor progress.

Whilst Needham Market Academy cannot promise to make all our students golfing superstars, they can guarantee a first class environment in which to learn and develop. Furthermore, their partnership with the University of Suffolk means that on completion of the BTEC qualification, students have the option of a guaranteed place at the university.

How To Join

Places are offered on playing ability so all prospective students will be subject to a trial. There are several trials throughout the year and you can book a place visiting


There are no tuition fees for students, however there will be a cost for purchasing training kit, membership fees and tournament entries which we be detailed at trials throughout the year.
